Sew Santa Barbara Walking Tour
Saturday, October 28, 2017
The Sew Santa Barbara Walking Tour will be on October 28, 2017. This tour is a collection of places and people interested in sewing and/or textiles and meant to highlight hidden gems that can be found in Santa Barbara.
This walking tour is a self-guided walking tour, intended to do at your own pace. Visit as many or as few of the tour locations as the day leads you.
The tour begins at 9:00 am in the Funk Zone with the annual sale at Raoul Textiles Factory then continues to Raoul Textiles and LoveWorn where you find Jill at work. Continue the tour up Garden Street’s Arts Corridor and meet Megan the Santa Barbara Seamstress and Grant House Sewing Machines and More. Then find your way into the boundary of the Presidio Neighborhood to Steven’s new location of Make Smith Leather. Continue up State Street into the Historic Arts District. Visit Beau of Ace Rivington before heading to the Fiber Arts October exhibit at the library: Handspeak Expression in Fiber. The tour ends at the heart of the Historic Theatre District where you find Fine Fabrics next to the Arlington Theatre.

Raoul Textiles Factory Sale is happening again this year on Saturday, October 28, 2017 from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. In the past, those that are eager will begin lining up early before the opening. Once the doors open, the warehouse is large enough to accommodate everyone. The early crowd usually thins out by mid morning and is more condusive to casual shoppers the rest of the day. Come with your colors in mind and the yardage amounts that are needed. The setup for the sale is the same with yardage, small pieces, long sewn panel and bags for quilters. This year there will also be some pillows and some bags.
Jill Johnson sews a lot at LOVEWORN. They have machines in the back and do a lot of alterations, denim repair and customization (think transforming customers’ beloved jeans into skirts, or changing the shape, or adding cute appliques and patches). Fun! They also do a lot of hand embroidery, studding, painting… all kinds of creative stuff. Jill also designs and hand makes a line of mini dresses. 100% cut and sewn here by my “loveworn hands”.
